In Dualities, I am transforming human figures into "inkblot" paintings in order to explore the idea that identities are often twofold or comprised of varying points on a spectrum. Whether it is ones ethnicity, gender presentation, sexuality, masculinity and femininity, dominance and submissiveness, beliefs, or even public versus private personas, there is a certain balance to many of our identities.
Each of the paintings portrays opposing figures that may appear perfectly symmetrical at first glance, but upon closer examination, it is evident that each half is similar, yet unique. Furthermore, the paintings bring to conversation how we become a reflection of those nearest to us or how another person might impact who we become.
