Paper Murmurations
2025 - PRESENT
A murmuration is a natural phenomena created by a flock of Starlings. Moving as one interconnected unit, the Starlings perform mesmerizing, shape-shifting dances.
The flock formations in my mixed-media paintings are made using paper cutouts of birds. The organic shapes that evolve form intuitively as I continually shift the birds until I'm satisfied with the flow of the flock. I then glue each bird one-by-one onto the painted surface of the canvas. As light falls onto the paintings, the slightly raised birds form shadows that add depth. Through these works, I not only celebrate the visual poetry of movement and form, but also invite viewers to experience a shared moment of awe—a reminder that beauty often lies in the delicate interplay of the individual and the collective
