Step into a grand visual spectacle with In the Theater of Air, a vertical mixed-media piece bursting with vivid sunset color. Framed by dark silhouetted treetops at the base, the vertical canvas reaches upward through a brilliant gradient—transitioning from golden yellow and soft orange into vivid hot pink, magenta, and cornflower blue. Two ascending currents of paper birds spiral upward like delicate ribbons of smoke, drawing the eye high into the twilight sky.
What makes this artwork truly special is its dynamic, tactile depth. Hundreds of individual paper birds are meticulously placed and glued by hand onto the canvas, creating an extraordinary 3D element. When illuminated with angled or directional lighting, the raised paper forms catch subtle highlights and cast soft, shifting shadows across the painting, making the flock appear to move and come alive throughout the day.
